THE Butler Falcons football team, including winner of the Most Courageous Player of 2015 award, Aker Athoi, have been chosen to be ambassadors for Refugee Week 2016.
Wanneroo Mayor and number one ticket holder of the Butler Falcons Tracey Roberts said the girls were shining examples of how people from different backgrounds could enjoy being a part of the local community and she was thrilled they were chosen to be Refugee Week Ambassadors.
“As an all-female, culturally and linguistically diverse AFL football team I have watched the girls find new friends and develop the invaluable skills of discipline, leadership, commitment and teamwork,’’ she said.
“They have embraced the game as a means to enjoy Australian culture and are amazing role models for the game, their community and other young women.
“I am so proud to see the Butler Falcons acknowledged more widely as Ambassadors for Refugee Week 2016.”
World Refugee Day was on 20 June 2016.
