I AM writing to let your readers know Professor Desiree Silva from The Kids Research Institute Australia has been named a finalist in the Mid Career Scientist of the Year category at the 2026 Premier’s Science Awards.
Professor Silva’s research is changing how we understand children’s health, from her world-leading ORIGINS study following babies from birth, to landmark work on childhood iron deficiency and ADHD that’s now shaping policy here and abroad.
I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Professor Silva through my time on the Joondalup Health Campus board of advice and when I was mayor of the City of Wanneroo, where our shared passion for early childhood and family health first connected us.
