Federal Budget includes extra $90m for Yanchep rail extension

THE 2022-23 Budget includes an extra $90 million for the Yanchep rail extension, according to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications.

This brings the total federal government commitment to the 14.5km rail project from Butler to Yanchep to $440m.

A Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC) spokeswoman said all the Australian Government’s funding for the Yanchep rail extension was budgeted and ready to flow.

“The project is well underway, with $256.65m in Australian Government funding already delivered to the state.

“Construction is expected to be completed in late 2023.’’

The spokeswoman said further payments of federal funding would be made to the Western Australian Government on completion of agreed project delivery milestones.

To date the WA Government has received $256.65m.

The WA Government is due to receive a total of $105m in 2022-23 and a final payment of $78.35m in 2023-24.
