Final abalone fishing day for season

YANCHEP Surf Life Saving Club and the Two Rocks Marine Rescue Group members patrol Yanchep Lagoon, which is often a popular place for abalone fishers on open days.

But Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club said while they had no incidents to report during the final open day for the 2017-2018 season held yesterday fisher numbers were down.

Meanwhile WA Police are investigating the death of a 62-year-old man after he was pulled from the water in Ocean Reef yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said about 7.35am on Saturday, February 17, the man was on rocks just north of the Ocean Reef marina fishing for abalone with family members.

A Royal Lifesaving jet ski patrolling the area found the man unconscious in the water around 8am.

The man, a visitor form Korea, was taken to Joondalup Health Campus where he later died.

The spokeswoman said a report on his death would be prepared for the Coroner.
