HOMICIDE squad detectives are seeking information regarding a fire in bushland east of Perry Rd, Pinjar, near Banksia Grove, on September 22 which is linked to the death of a 23-year-old man.
About 1.45am St John WA advised WA Police Force they were responding to an incident involving an explosion which left a man seriously injured.
A police spokeswoman said it was believed Jack Aubrey Kinneen of Heathridge was four-wheel-driving with friends, when about 1.30am they encountered a fire near a bush track.
As Mr Kinneen approached the fire an explosion occurred.
St John WA personnel attended but despite efforts to provide emergency first aid to Mr Kinneen he died at the scene.
She said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire had resulted in the fire being deemed as deliberately lit, with structural components of the fire having caused the explosion.
“Detectives would like to speak to two people who were seen in the area at the time,” she said.
The first person is a male, about 40-years-old with balding hair.
The second person is a female who was driving a silver or bronze Holden Commodore sedan – believed to be an early 2000s model.
