After fixing a water leak in Arney Crt the Water Corporation has advice about how residents can check leaks themselves.

THE Water Corporation says fixing a water leak along Arney Crt in Yanchep has saved about 21 Olympic swimming pools of water each year.

Water Corporation spokeswoman Clare Lugar said the department’s non-visible leak detection program located a leak along Arney Crt in  August last year.

“This leak was repaired immediately and an estimated 47 million litres of water each year will be saved – that’s the equivalent of about 21 Olympic swimming pools of water each year,’’ she said.

She said residents could also check for leaks.

“We encourage households to also check for hidden leaks on internal plumbing, underground pipes or reticulation, using the following simple steps:

Step 1: Ensure no water is being used in your house (turn off all water appliances, such as washing machines and evaporative air conditioners).

Step 2: Read the black and red numbers on your meter. Record the black numbers from left to right. The black numbers represent kilolitres (1000 litres) and the red numbers represent litres.

Step 3: If the dial is not visibly moving, take another reading after 15 minutes.

Step 4: If the red numbers have changed, the test confirms there is a leak and further investigation is needed.
