A GARAGE sale trail will be held at the Gingin Railway Station on Sunday, October 21.
If you are having a spring clean and want to sell items such as plants, household goods, art and crafts, furniture and more the garage sale trail will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
You need to register by contacting the Gingin Community Resource Centre to – call 9575 1253 or email crc@gingin.net
If you want to see what is available for sale on the day the historic Gingin Railway Station is on Jones St.
There is still time to register to host your own garage sale during Australia’s biggest community sustainability event, taking place on October 20-21.
City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is encouraging residents to ‘choose to re-use’ and be part of the annual garage sale trail.
Cr Roberts said according to The Australia Institute, 88 per cent of Australians had at least one cluttered room in their home.
“What better way of de-cluttering than hosting your own sale,’’ she said.
“You don’t have to leave home, you will get to connect with people in your neighbourhood, all while making a bit of pocket money.”
She said last year, it was revealed the average garage sale sold nine shopping trolleys worth of items and the latest findings from the Gumtree Second Hand Economy Report 2018 revealed the average Australian household has $4200 in unwanted items and a staggering 50 per cent admit to throwing their unwanted items away.
“Garage sale trail presents the perfect opportunity to not only reuse, but to realise the responsibility we have for the waste we generate – as individuals, and as communities – in a fun and social way.’’
This will be the third year the City of Wanneroo has been involved.
In 2016, the City of Wanneroo was awarded the best newcomer award.
