THE introduction of paid parking on the Guilderton foreshore has been postponed after residents raised their concerns at the Shire of Gingin’s annual general meeting of electors just before Christmas.

Shire President David Roe said the installation of paid parking at the Guilderton foreshore car park had been deferred as a result of a motion at the shire’s annual general meeting of electors held in Guilderton on Thursday, December 22.

On Saturday, November 26 Yanchep News Online reported the Guilderton foreshore car park was to get parking meters, which the shire said would be installed and operational by December 23.

Councillor Roe said installation of paid parking at been deferred so the council could reconsider its position on the paid parking concept.

“ In considering this motion at its January meeting, the council requested the shire’s administration prepare a report addressing the potential implications of the resolution arising from the annual general meeting of electors by no later than May 16,  2017 and agreed to defer implementation of paid parking at the Guilderton foreshore parking area pending consideration of this report,’’ he said.

“The shire will keep the community informed as information comes to hand.’’
