MUCHEA trainer Justine Erkelens was thrilled with jockey Brad Parnham’s winning ride on Tucky’s Lad at Ascot on Good Friday.
After Tucky’s Lad dug deep to hold off Bergio and jockey William Pike in the Mumm Champagne Handicap (1600m) Erkelens said Parnham and the horse just seemed to have clicked.
“It’s awesome,’’ she said.
“The horse should have won may more races than what he has so it’s good (Brad) is getting along with him.
“Only in his second campaign and he had one race and got slammed into the fence and he just went backwards from there on.
“So just this confidence building for him now it’s just great.’’
Parnham said starting from barrier three, carrying 54.5kg and landing where he wanted gave him a great opportunity in the race.
“I knew Forseen would lead and I was hoping I could just stay on it’s back,’’ he said.
“Fortunately for me Tonkatuff just had to do a little bit of work to sort of get outside the leader and coming into the straight I knew I was always going to have a way out because the horses I was following were good chances.
“I ended up getting into the clear pretty easily.’’
He said Tucky’s Lad fought on strongly and found that extra little bit in the last 100m.
“I had to ride him strongly to the line because Pike’s horse was chasing me home.’’
