A ROAD now under construction in Two Rocks will go from Lisford Ave past the King Neptune sculpture and connect with Enterprise Ave creating a new entry to the town centre.

Michael Bower, a consultant for Fini Group, said the new road will be called Azura St.

The works, which started about five weeks ago, are expected to finish in about 15 weeks.

But Mr Bower said an application had been made and if it was processed in time the construction of an additional road would mean the works in the area went on longer.

The additional road will also run off Lisford Ave and run parallel to Azura St.

It does not have a name yet but Mr Bower said from memory street names in the town centre were chosen to reflect the America’s Cup challenge.

Mr Bower said depending on demand for lots there would be three to five years of development work in the area.

The Royal Australian Air Force Association WA (RAAFA) land abuts King Neptune and continues to Sovereign Dr.

According to the RAAFA 2017-18 annual report the organisation bought 6ha of land at the Atlantis site of which 1ha will be public open space.

The annual report says the land purchase will enable it to create a retirement community for members and older Western Australians in the northern corridor, offering comprehensive aged housing options and high quality residential aged care, providing a smooth housing and care continuum.

RAAFA WA chief executive officer John Murray said the organisation was not responsible or involved in the works underway now.

“In relation to the public open space, this is King Neptune which is currently being administered by RAAFA and will be returned to the City of Wanneroo in due course,’’ he said.

RAAFA and the City of Wanneroo are still in the planning phase for the design of the public open space.

He said construction for the retirement housing was still several years away.

“Once the public open space work has been finalised RAAFA will focus on developing a site master plan, which is the first step in the design phase.’’

  • In a development application since lodged with the City of Wanneroo the new street is spelt “Azzurra”.
