THE successful proponents for the redevelopment of the Lancelin Caravan Park – formerly known as Lancelin South Caravan Park – are Reginald and Donna Cocking and Christopher and Ornella Sialtsis operating as Experience Holiday Parks.
The Shire of Gingin said Experience Holiday Parks was one of two applicants shortlisted by the Lancelin Caravan Park evaluation and selection committee.
Shire President David Roe said although the other applicant withdrew from the process the submission from Experience Holiday Parks was of a very high standard and subsequently they were recommended as the preferred applicant to the council.
Cr Roe said the experienced operators, who also manage the Central Caravan Park at Ascot as well as the Mandurah Caravan and Tourist Park, would be investing $5 million over five years to develop the park to a high coastal tourist destination standard.
He said the development would include self-contained cabins, a fully enclosed heated swimming pool with public access, an adventure playground, new ablution and camper kitchen facilities, road infrastructure and much more.
“The council has also recommended the successful proponents taking over interim management of the existing park whilst negotiations continue with regard to a prospective lease,’’ he said.
“A business plan is currently being prepared by the shire and will be given Public Notice under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1997.
“In addition, the shire will seek permission from the Minister for Lands to amend its Vesting Order at the site to enable a 21-year lease with a 21-year option to renew.’’
He said work on phase one of the redevelopment was expected to start in early 2018 provided the relative approvals were granted.
