LANCELIN trainer Ashley Maley plans to start Red Publisher in another 1400m race at Ascot on Saturday after the chestnut gelding’s fast finish in the Digger’s Cup at Ascot on April 22.

Maley said he was also considering starting Red Publisher in a Group 3 race in June and that Push to Pass was being set for an 1800m race in about a fortnight .

Maley said as Red Publisher had drawn barrier 10 in the Digger’s Cup (1400m) the plan had always been to go back.

He said the horse had run an outstanding race and he was really pleased with him.

Out of two starts this campaign Maley said Red Publisher had drawn outside barriers both times.

The Publishing and Kewpie Doll gelding was still at the rear of the field after the 500m.

After entering the home straight jockey Shaun McGruddy took him off the rail and around the field to start his run for home.

Red Publisher almost nailed Variation on the finish line but a photo showed Variation had won by a short head.

Max Almighty finished seventh for Muchea trainer Alan Matthews.
