WA Police have taken a 35-year-old man into custody following an evade police incident that started in Clarkson this afternoon.
A police spokeswoman said about 2.25pm, a Land Rover Discovery displaying stolen registration plates failed to stop for police on Lower Quays Dr.
“An evade police incident started, travelling through several northern suburbs before the Land Rover was abandoned in the underground carpark of a shopping centre in Whitfords,’’ she said.
“It is alleged the driver then stole a Mazda BT-50 utility from the carpark.
“The stolen Mazda was later sighted being driven recklessly on Scarborough Beach Rd and was monitored by the police air wing.
“At the intersection of Scarborough Beach Rd and Huntriss Rd, the Mazda allegedly swerved in front of a Transperth bus, causing the bus driver to brake heavily.’’
The police spokeswoman said one passenger sustained minor bruising.
“The Mazda subsequently collided with another vehicle, causing minor front-end damage, before turning into Huntriss Rd.
“Tactical response group officers, who were in the area in relation to an unrelated matter, sighted the vehicle.
“The driver of the Mazda alighted the vehicle and attempted to enter another vehicle before being taken into custody by police.
“After the driver exited the Mazda, the unattended vehicle rolled down Huntriss Rd and collided with a small brick wall.”
She said inquiries remained ongoing.
