THE dualling of Marmion Ave to Yanchep is a step closer after the awarding of the contract for the design consultancy services.
City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said GHD Engineering would be responsible for designing the 11.5km second carriageway of Marmion Ave from Butler Boulevard to Yanchep Beach Rd, to align with existing roundabouts and intersections.
Cr Roberts said the Northern corridor was experiencing considerable growth and commensurate traffic pressures.
“We’re pleased to be moving forward with this substantial project that will increase capacity along Marmion Ave, as well as decrease congestion at intersections and better facilitate the movement of traffic between Yanchep and Butler via the arterial road network,’’ she said.
The design phase for the state government funded $23 million project is due for completion in August, when the construction tender will go to market.
She said work was expected to start in December with the new carriageway to open in January 2021.
The project which includes earthworks, kerbing, drainage, street lighting, shared paths, landscaping and pavement construction requires a substantial amount of consultation with developers adjacent to Marmion Ave, as well as utility providers is underway to understand the impact of their current and future infrastructure obligations and to avoid potential duplication or sacrificial works. “Complex traffic management will be in order to ensure the job can be completed safely while the existing carriageway of Marmion Ave is still in operation.
“Whilst some regular road users may be disrupted, the long term benefits to our residents will be immeasurable in terms of reduced commute times and positive lifestyle and impacts.”
