Marmion dualling sees Quigley eye Romeo Rd

After an announcement about the dualling of Marmion Ave to Yanchep, Butler MLA John Quigley says he will now push for the freeway to extend to Romeo Rd.

BUTLER MLA John Quigley has welcomed the McGowan Government’s funding to turn the single lane section of Marmion Ave between Yanchep and Butler into double lanes.

On Sunday Mr Quigley told Yanchep News Online he would now start campaigning for the Mitchell Fwy to be extended to Romeo Rd.

Yanchep News Online understands the freeway extension to Romeo Rd is also a pet project for Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton in whose electorate the busy and some would say somewhat dangerous intersection lies.

Mr Quigley said the federal government, which collected all of Western Australia’s GST should immediately pledge several hundred million dollars the start the Romeo Rd freeway extension.

He said the City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said a press conference announcing the dualling of Marmion Ave that the city hoped to sign a contract within the next six months and that it was the city’s intention to speed up the dualling by having two crews – one working from the Yanchep end of Marmion Ave and the other from the Butler-Alkimos end.

Mr Quigley said the widening of Marmion Ave was very important for emergency vehicles, which were being held up in single lane traffic.

“Making Marmion Avenue a dual carriageway will slash travel times from the Yanchep and Alkimos district and reduce driver frustration,’’ he said.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said funding for the road duplication between Camborne Parkway in Butler to Yanchep Beach Rd and along with the Metronet rail extension to Yanchep was a key election commitment to ease congestion and create jobs.
