MARRON season starts at noon tomorrow Sunday, January 8 for licenced fishers.

During marron season fishing is allowed in the Moore River and its tributaries such as the Gingin Brook.

Drop nets, scoop nets and snares are legal fishing gear but fishers are only allowed to use one method at a time.

Legal fishing gear for catching marron has more information on the types and quantities of fishing gear fishers can use.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) said there are more than 10,000 licenced marron fishers in WA.

DPIRD aquatic resource management director Nathan Harrison said wild marron were true locals and endemic to WA’s South West, so fishing had to be managed carefully to protect stocks and preserve the experience of being able to go marroning.

The season ends at noon on Sunday, February 5.
