
MAIN Roads WA says as of January 19 there has been one fatal accident at the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection, which occurred on January 7, 2026.
About noon on January 7 a silver Kia Carnival van collided with a black Kawasaki motorcycle at the intersection of Indian Ocean Dr and Yanchep Beach Rd.
At 5.38pm WA Police said the rider of the motorcycle, a 56-year-old man, had died at the scene
Due to the fatal crash Wanneroo Rd was closed in both directions between Pipidinny Rd and Old Yanchep Rd until about 5pm.

In 2020 readers raised concerns about near misses increasing in the Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection area with suggestions the situation got worse during the temporary closure of the Yanchep Beach Rd entry to Yanchep National Park.
Back then the Main Roads WA traffic map showed that in 2017-2018 on average Monday to Friday 5455 vehicles (91.8 per cent cars and 8.2 per cent trucks) used Yanchep Beach Rd.
On January 15 this year the Main Roads WA traffic map showed that in 2024-25 on average Monday to Friday 7859 vehicles (89.6 per cent cars and 10.4 per cent trucks) used Yanchep Beach Rd.

On the same date the Main Roads WA traffic map showed that in 2020-21 on average Monday to Friday 5023 vehicles (79.6 per cent cars and 20.4 per cent trucks) used Indian Ocean Dr north of the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd intersection.
