THE northbound lanes of two Alkimos streets are set to be closed for 12 months during construction of the Yanchep rail extension.

Metronet is proposing to close the northbound lanes of Chesham Rise between Jeresh Lane and Cheadle Lane as well as Charlbury Dr between Manly Way and Doncaster Grange.

The purpose of the lane closures is to allow the construction of retaining walls, while ensuring a safe distance between live traffic, deep excavation points and working crew.

During the closures Chesham Dr and Charlbury Dr will be one-way lanes with only left turns permitted onto the thoroughfares.

Barriers will separate the work site from the road to ensure the safety of all road users.

One Charlbury Dr resident told Yanchep News Online three months was an acceptable closure but not 12 months.

Plans detailing the area affected by the closures may be inspected at the City of Wanneroo administration centre.

The closures are due to start next month but submissions about the proposed closures can be emailed to traffic@wanneroo.wa.gov.au

The deadline for correspondence is 5pm Thursday, November 3.
