More than 19 years after Ciara Glennon's body was found off Pipidinny Rd a man has been charged with her murder.

A MAN walking in bushland off Pipidinny Rd in Eglinton found Ciara Glennon’s body in April 1997 about a month after she went missing.

Now more than 19 years later Claremont serial killer investigation detectives have charged a Kewdale man with her murder and the murder of Jane Rimmer as well as attacks on two other women, a 17-year-old in Claremont in 1995 and an 18-year-old in Huntingdale in 1988.

On Friday, December 23 Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan said there had been a big breakthrough in the long running investigation into a series of abductions and murders in the 1990s in Claremont.

Code named Macro, the investigation was later expanded to include other serious crimes.

Mr O’Callaghan said special crime squad detectives arrested a 48-year-old man at his Kewdale home yesterday and charged him early this morning.

“It’ll be alleged the man abducted 23-year-old Ms Rimmer in the early hours of June 9, 1996, after she’d had a night out with friends in Claremont,’’ he said.

“Her body was later discovered in Wellard on August 3, 1996.

“Police will also allege he abducted 27-year-old Ms Glennon on Friday, March 14, 1997, after she too had a night out in Claremont.

“Ms Glennon’s body was discovered in bushland off Pipidinny Road in Eglington on April 3, 1997.

“The man has also been charged with the abduction of the 17 year old girl in the early hours of February 12, 1995, as she walked through Rowe Park on Gugeri Street in Claremont.

“It will be alleged she was restrained and forced into a vehicle which was then driven to Karrakatta Cemetery where she was sexually assaulted.

“The special crime squad has also charged the man over a break-in and indecent assault at a house in Huntingdale on February 15, 1988.

“Police will allege he entered the bedroom of an 18-year-old woman and attacked her as she slept.

“He fled after she struggled.

The man has been charged with two counts of wilful murder, two counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts of aggravated  sexual penetration without consent, one count of break and enter a dwelling with intent and one count of indecent assault.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today (Friday, December 23).

Investigations into the disappearance and suspected murder of Sarah Spiers in January 1996 are ongoing.
