SMOKE alerts have been issued for some major roads in the shires of Gingin and Chittering.

The smoke is due to Parks and Wildlife Service prescribed burns and private property burns in the areas.

Just before 4.30pm one alert was issued for Lancelin, Gingin, Guilderton and surrounding areas including Indian Ocean Dr in the Shire of Gingin – the smoke is expected to clear tomorrow.

The second alert was issued for Muchea and Bullsbrook and surrounds in the Shire of Chittering and parts of surrounding areas in the Shire of Gingin.

The smoke may impact visibility on the Tonkin Hwy, Brand Hwy and Neaves Rd and surrounding roads – the smoke is expected to clear tomorrow afternoon.

The alerts were issued by the Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

WHAT TO DO:

  • If the smoke is particularly thick, it is recommended people shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
  • Smoke may reduce visibility on some roads and motorists should take care, turn on headlights and travel at appropriate speeds when travelling in these areas.
  • People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
  • People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.
