STORY Dogs coordinator and volunteer Christina Line is a finalist in this year’s Westfield Whitford City Local Heroes program.
For eight years, Story Dogs volunteer Mrs Line has helped children discover the joy of reading by giving them the chance to read with a friendly dog by their side.
As a coordinator, she supports volunteers locally and across Australia, helping more children build confidence, develop a love of reading and become lifelong readers.
In WA some of the schools visited by Story Dogs volunteers and their dogs include Yanchep Lagoon Primary School, Alkimos PS, Alkimos Beach PS, East Butler PS, Eglinton Beach PS, Shorehaven PS, Somerly PS, Carnaby Rise PS, Alinjarra PS, Hudson Park PS and Waddington PS.
Scentre Group national community manager Pam Wilson said the Westfield Local Heroes program celebrated individuals who gave their time, effort and energy to making communities stronger and more inclusive.
“Each and every one of our finalists represents the very best of community spirit and we encourage the community to get involved this year by voting for the cause or individual that resonates with them,’’ she said.
The other Whitford City Local Heroes program finalists are Vicky Young from Dandelions WA and Beverley Woolhouse from The Pantry WA.
The successful hero from each Westfield destination will receive a $20,000 grant for their organisation and projects, with the remaining two finalists each receiving a $5000 grant to support their ongoing community efforts and valuable work.
Visit the Westfield website and select your local Westfield destination to cast your vote before 6pm AEST on Sunday, September 20.
