Every year on Australia Day Yanchep and Two Rocks area are invited to attend and enjoy a fully cooked breakfast, some great company and entertainment.

THE Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association is again holding their annual Australia Day Breakfast on January 26 starting at 8am.

The kitchen will be open until 10.30am when it closes for the Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association (YTRCRA) Community Awards presentations.

Residents from within the Yanchep and Two Rocks area are invited to attend and enjoy a fully cooked breakfast, some great company and entertainment.

YTRCRA president Julie Otremba AOM said the association had served many breakfasts in the more than 30 years the event had been running.

Mrs Otremba said the first breakfast had been a sausage sizzle in the park to help residents to meet other people in the area and to enjoy the morning.

“The breakfast then progressed into being a fully cooked breakfast, where residents can meet up and chat and newer members to the community can get to know others from the area,’’ she said.

The biggest number catered for was 650 – a tremendous effort considering the breakfast was only available from 8am until 10.30am.

“We always have some form of entertainment for both the kids and the adults.

“This is a tradition that is steeped in our history and the history of the area, as it was one of the founding members of the association Mr Phil Renkin OAM that started the breakfast off to celebrate our great country.

“The Phil Renkin Recreation Centre where the Australia Day Breakfast is now held is named after him for all the community involvement with the group he helped to set up and ran right up until his passing in 2011.”

Since the Community Awards started in 2002 many groups and people have been nominated for the title of Citizen of the Year, Group of the Year and Youth Achiever of the Year.

“These awards recognise local community members for their contributions in the community and also to the groups that keep improving where we live.

“The youth achiever award can be for academic, sporting or volunteering achievements.

“Our Major Sponsor this year is the City of Wanneroo with funds from their Flagship Funding round.

“We also have the support from Yanchep Sun City Pty Ltd again this year.

“Please help us celebrate our beautiful country and our wonderful communities of Yanchep and Two Rocks.’’
