TWO Rocks Primary School has celebrated the opening of their yarning circle with a smoking ceremony and welcome to country delivered by Aboriginal elder Brad Jacobs.

The yarning circle was created by Shellie Dodds and principal Elizabeth Wildish and built by TLC Landscapes.

It is decorated with the Noongar six seasons, painted by Aboriginal artist Rebecca Reid.

The Noongar six seasons are represented with paintings of animals, birds and plants that are illustrative of each particular season.

The ceremony was attended by the whole school and members of the school community.

The students enjoyed walking through the smoke and learning about the history of why smoking ceremonies are held and the significance of the welcome to country.

Students will now enjoy using the yarning circle by reading Dreamtime stories and Indigenous literature.

Discussions will be generated about topics studied in class, discussing NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day.

Students will have the opportunity to discuss what they have learnt about bush tucker and will continue to enjoy it for many more years to come.
