WA Covid-19 update and some aged care data

THE latest WA Covid-19 update includes 33 deaths dating back to November last year.

Yesterday WA Health reported that between December 30 and up to 4pm on Thursday, January 5 there had been 6675 new cases of Covid-19.

During that time 252 people were in hospital with Covid-19 with six of them in ICU.

The report to 4pm yesterday included 29 deaths, dating back to November 29, which were reported to WA Health in the past week, aged from 33 to 99 years.

Over the festive season week of December 22-29, WA Health reported 8391 cases.

For that week there were 241 people with Covid-19 in hospital, nine in ICU.

The report to 4pm December 29 included four deaths, dating back to December 9, aged from 58 to 91 years.

For the week December 19 to December 25 (inclusive) the moving seven-day average case rates per 100,000 population decreased in all regions except the Wheatbelt region, where the rate remained stable.

The seven-day average case rate for the Perth metropolitan area (57 cases/100,000 population) was approximately 54 per cent higher than the Western Australia Country Health Service (WACHS) regions combined (37 cases/100,000 population).

For the week December 26 to January 1 (inclusive) the moving seven-day average case rates per 100,000 population decreased in all regions except the Goldfields, Kimberley and Midwest regions, which increased, and the Pilbara, which remained steady.

The seven-day average case rate for the Perth metropolitan area (42 cases/100,000 population) was approximately 40 per cent higher than the Western Australia Country Health Service (WACHS) regions combined (30 cases/100,000 population).

The latest Department of Health and Aged Care data on national residential aged care services with active outbreaks of Covid-19 shows Villa Terenzio in Marangaroo recording 89 residents and 43 staff with the virus and less than six resident deaths. *

The data also shows Bethanie Como recording 58 residents and 14 staff with the virus and less than six resident deaths. *
