Yanchep Anzac Day services start at dawn

Yanchep and Two Rocks residents can attend two Anzac Day services organised by the Yanchep Two Rocks RSL sub branch on Monday, April 25.

TO commemorate Anzac Day the Yanchep Two Rocks RSL sub branch will hold a Dawn Service followed by a Gunfire Breakfast at the memorial at the Yanchep Sports and Social Club at 5.45am on Monday, April 25.

Then from about 11am people will muster at the Yanchep National Park where two Royal Australian Air Force jets are due to flypast about 11.15am.

The service will start at 11-30 am.

Yanchep and Two Rocks RSL sub branch secretary Malcolm Gow said many community groups, ex-service personnel, cadets, and officers from the TS Marmion would take part in the parade.

“There will be a bugler from the Challenge Brass band sounding the last post, and reveille and the band, including a local Ladies choir, will lead the singing,’’ he said.

“Uniformed present service personnel, including local councillors and Members of Parliament will be attending.

“We are all gathering  to confirm the objective of  ‘We will Remember Them’.

A former UK Royal Air Force serviceman Mr Gow has been a member and office bearer of the Yanchep Two Rocks sub branch for the past seven years.

Mr Gow said he personally wanted to remember colleagues killed in the Cyprus confrontation.

“Today we set up a display stand at the Yanchep Sport and Social Club open day, giving out leaflets and pamphlets to try and recruit more members and promote our Anzac Day events where we had some success.’’

He said at last year’s gunfire breakfast 250 breakfasts were served and the sub branch expected the number to be higher this year.
