MAIN Roads WA has provided an update about the proposed Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection upgrade as well as the most recent official crash data.

On June 4 Yanchep News Online reported that an upgrade of the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection was anticipated to start before the end of this year.

The original data showed only one set of advance flashing warning signs between the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection and the Yanchep National Park entry and Old Yanchep Rd intersection.

But Main Roads told Yanchep News Online on Friday, July 31 that the existing rumble strips on Wanneroo Rd and Indian Ocean Dr would be removed as part of the project, as the new traffic signals were installed.

“The operation of the traffic signals at this intersection will be supported by advance flashing warning signs to highlight the location of the intersection and improve safety,’’ a spokeswoman said.

Yanchep News Online also asked Main Roads for latest test crash data for the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection.

Main Roads said in the five years to December 31, 2025 there were 24 reported crashes at the intersection.

“Four required hospitalisation, 12 needed medical attention and eight resulted in property damage.’’

The fatal crash at the Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection on Wednesday, January 7 this year, which was the first fatality at the intersection, is not included in the above data but will be accounted for early next year for the period ending December 31, 2026.

For the Indian Ocean Dr and Old Yanchep Rd intersection in the five years to December 31, 2025 Main Roads said there were four reported crashes.

In the five years to December 31, 2025 Main Roads said there was one reported crash at the Indian Ocean Dr and Yanchep National Park intersection.
