Yanchep resident sings up a storm in The Addams Family

The Addams Family’s Lurch (played by Logan Bin Bakar), Morticia (Perri Hinton) and Gomez (Yanchep resident Jacob Miles).

MAGNIFICENTLY macabre and darkly humorous – Yanchep resident Jacob Miles is ready to spook up the stage as Gomez in The Addams Family Broadway musical.

Written by Marshall Brickman, Rick Elice and Andrew Lippa and directed by Fran Gordon the story uses characters created by Charles Addams.

In this telling, Wednesday is now all grown up and has fallen in love with a sweet young man from a respectable family.

She confides in her father Gomez and begs him not to tell her mother, which means Gomez must do something he has never done before – keep a secret from his beloved Morticia.

Jacob Miles said Gomez was a man of passion and many principles who loved his family and did anything he could for them.

“Above all else is his devotion to his beloved wife Morticia, a woman he loves with all his heart and from whom he keeps nothing,’’ he said.

“The main challenge is Gomez’s Spanish accent – I’m no stranger to doing voices and accents for shows but Spanish is a little tricky.

“I’m quite excited about it and hopefully I can pull it off.”

Acting for the past 10 years, Jacob has performed with the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, Perth Youth, Limelight, Old Mill, Mermaid and Snapshot Youth Theatres, Platinum Entertainment, ICW Productions and the Stage Door School.

He has appeared in various productions, including a Blues Brothers tribute show, Oliver!, Beauty and The Beast, Elf Jr, Camp Rock, Bugsy Malone, Annie, The Lion King Jr, Fame Jr and High School Musical Jr, among many others.

In that time, Jacob has won several best actor awards, as well as best newcomer and most committed, including the Brian Maddocks award for best youth in a play for his role in The Man Who Was Peter Pan.

“I wasn’t originally planning to be in any productions this year because it’s my final year of school,” he said.

“But when I saw Fran Gordon was directing a show at Stirling Theatre, I had to audition.

“I already knew the concept of The Addams Family and, after listening to the soundtrack, I knew it would be a show I would just love to perform in.”

The Addams Family plays at Stirling Theatre at 8pm on September 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, October 1 and 2 with a 2pm September 19 and a 6.30pm show on September 26.
