The comment period for a draft waste management plan released by the City of Wanneroo closes on September 19.

DEVELOPING a waste management strategy that will continue to improve recycling with the aim of reducing waste to landfill by 65 per cent by 2020 is important, says the City of Wanneroo.

The city is asking residents to comment on its draft strategic waste management plan by completing the feedback form on its website at https://www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au/consultations/133-city-of-wanneroo-draft-strategic-waste-management-plan, or by sending feedback into the city before Monday, September 19.

Alternatively, hard copies of the strategy can be viewed at the Yanchep Community Centre or the city’s Civic Centre and libraries.

The city said a survey during April and May about its waste services received nearly 750 responses and the information collected had been used to inform the recommendations and action plan within the proposed strategic waste management plan and waste operations generally.

With nearly 38,000 tonnes of mixed waste from Wanneroo going into landfill each year, the city said it was committed to developing a waste management strategy that would improve recycling rates and reduce landfill.
