
YANCHEP Secondary College is a finalist in the Western Australian region awards for the 2018 Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge to be held at the Regal Theatre on Thursday, September 6.
The Yanchep college, which is one of seven schools to make the WA finals, won multiple awards for its story dance production of Junko’s Story, the true story of a 13-year-old schoolgirl living in Hiroshima during the bombing of 1945.
The school will be performing on stage again at the WA awards night.
During Wakakirri’s 2018 performance season students from 235 primary and secondary schools have taken to the stage at professional theatres across Australia to perform story dances that reflecting their thoughts, ideas and aspirations through dance and drama.
After the schools performed they were given feedback by Wakakirri’s representative Sarah Harmony.
She said the Yanchep story dance was a moving story told with beautiful and skilful dancing and choreography paired with simple yet effective costumes.
