MORE street lighting is set to be rolled out on Two Rocks Rd as part of WA’s state black spot program.

In a statement this morning Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said as part of the 2022-23 program $788,300 had been allocated to install more street lighting on Two Rocks Rd in the City of Wanneroo.

In July 2016 an officer’s report prepared for the City of Wanneroo included crash data for Two Rocks Rd.

This showed there had been 21 crashes, including two fatalities on the 6.6km stretch of Two Rocks Rd between Yanchep Beach Rd and Lisford Ave during the five years between 2011 and 2015.

The crash data also highlighted that eight of the 21 crashes occurred at night and five of the crashes were off carriageway (leaving road) crashes.

In 2015 on September 25 a 20-year-old man from Two Rocks died when a white Ford Falcon sedan travelling north collided with a silver Holden Astra travelling south about 500m south of Montebello Bvd.

On March 6 in 2016 a Two Rocks woman and two Nollamara men died in a head-on crash about 1km north of the old Club Capricorn entry and just south of the Yanchep and Two Rocks local government boundary.

The Two Rocks Rd street lighting upgrade is one of 50 locations in the metropolitan area to receive funding from the program this financial year.

The McGowan Government is investing $22.6 million into the 2022-23 state black spot program, which will result in 83 upgrades and safety improvements made to roads across WA.

In addition to the $22.6m provided by the state government, local governments will allocate a further $6.3 million to support the program.

Ms Saffioti said the black spot program work was important.

“Each project included within this program is chosen based on data from safety audits or previous incident histories, with the work supporting existing road maintenance and infrastructure delivery underway to reduce overall traffic congestion and improve road safety across our state,’’ she said.
