I am writing to let City of Wanneroo and Shire of Gingin businesses know the Parliamentary Select Committee on Cyber Security for small to medium sized businesses and organisations wants to hear directly from business owners about the challenges they face and the support they need in relation to cyber threats.
This is because cyber threats from scams and phishing emails to ransomware and data breaches are becoming a growing concern for small and medium sized businesses across Australia.
The committee has launched a short business owner survey to better understand the cyber security experiences of small and medium sized businesses and organisations.
As the committee deputy chair I want business owners know the survey is an opportunity for them to make their views heard.
Running a small business is demanding enough without having to worry about cyber criminals targeting your operations, customer data or finances.
We want to hear what’s working, what’s not and what government, industry and cyber security experts can do to better support small businesses.
Whether you have experienced a cyber incident, are concerned about the cost of cyber security, or need clearer advice and support, we want to hear from you.
As the former opposition Cyber Security spokeswoman, I understand the need for small and medium businesses to be well-equipped in cyber protection as technology evolves.
This survey provides all businesses across regional Western Australia with the opportunity to speak directly to decision-makers regarding cyber security, the first of its kind.
The committee is particularly seeking feedback from businesses with fewer than 200 employees, as well as cyber security and technology experts.
The survey is designed to be quick and easy to complete and will help inform the Committee’s work examining the cyber security challenges and opportunities facing Australia’s small and medium sized businesses.
The survey will be open until January 29, 2027.

Businesses, organisations and individuals who would like to provide more detailed feedback can also make a submission to the inquiry until August 28 this year.
