A POWER infrastructure project is underway in Yanchep to boost the number of residential housing lots available.

Western Power said the underground power installation underway in Yanchep would unlock 950 new lots.

Three other power infrastructure projects are underway or due to start this year will provide for 950 new lots in Byford (underway), 270 lots in South Yunderup (underway) and 1300 lots in Mundijong (scheduled to begin in November).

Together the four power projects will provide about 3470 new residential housing lots.

The housing and infrastructure growth program (HIGP) supports the federal and state governments to increase housing supply in Western Australia by delivering essential power infrastructure to enable the connection of new homes.

Western Power asset management acting executive manager Ben Bristow said the program was set to unlock more than 9600 additional lots across 11 key growth areas during the next four years.

“Through delivering power infrastructure in growth areas, we are helping to create more housing and a more secure housing pipeline for the community,’’ he said.

The first HIGP program, completed in December 2025, delivered a 500m underground powerline extension in Malaga to unlock at least 400 lots close to the Ballajura train station.

“Construction is also expected to begin in the key priority areas of Mandogalup and Hammond Park, Bullsbrook, North Ellenbrook, North East Baldivis and East Wanneroo next year.

“Supporting the delivery of housing in Western Australia is a key priority for Western Power.

“In addition to the HIGP program, we energised a record 17,517 lots last financial year, the majority of which were residential subdivision lots in support of the state government’s priority to deliver more housing for West Australians.”
