AT 12.42pm DFES said the incident is now contained and under control.
A HAZMAT general warning has been issued due to a gas leak in Boonanarring and Beermullah in the Shire of Gingin.
At 11.48am the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said there was a gas leak on the Brand Highway between Wannamal Rd West and Aurisch Rd.
Brand Hwy is closed between Wannamal Rd West and Aurisch Rd.
DFES said the gas was being carried in an easterly direction.
People travelling along the Brand Hwy or in surrounding areas should as a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed – air conditioners should also be switched off.
People should stay away from the area but if you are already in the area take advice from emergency services personnel.
People with medical concerns should contact their local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.
Firefighters, HAZMAT crews and emergency services are on their way to assess and contain the situation.
