A NEW primary school able to accommodate 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6 will open in Yanchep in 2021.

On Thursday, January 23 Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery turned the first sod at Sunningdale Primary School to get construction of the new school officially underway.

The new school on Sunningdale Rd in St Andrews will have a dedicated early childhood teaching block and three general classroom blocks, including a specialised art and craft room.

It includes a covered assembly area with a canteen and music room, as well as a library resource centre, staff room, conference room and administration building.

Ms Ellery said it was an exciting moment for the Yanchep community and families who would benefit from the new primary school.

Butler MLA John Quigley said students in the St Andrews and Yanchep Golf estates would have a shorter journey to school.
