FIRE investigators are still at Gingin District High School after a fire there early this morning caused damage estimated at $2.5 million.

Twenty-five firefighters attended the fire which was reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) just before 3am on Saturday, August 31.

DFES emergency operation centre officer-in-charge Nigel Elliott said crews arrived to find some classrooms at the school on fire.

Mr Elliott said at least two classrooms had been damaged but Yanchep News Online understands another two classrooms may have suffered smoke damage.

He said the firefighters, which included crews from the Gingin South Bushfire Brigade, Gingin Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bullsbrook Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service and Ellenbrook career Fire and Rescue, had the fire under control just before 5am.

He said DFES investigators were still determining what caused the fire.
