HorsePower provides programs to individuals with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges through activities such as horseback riding, carriage driving, vaulting, hippotherapy and walking with horses.

APPLICATIONS have opened for the Hearts & Horses Scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to participants accessing HorsePower programs.

HorsePower provides equine programs to individuals with physical, intellectual, emotional and social challenges through activities such as horseback riding, carriage driving, vaulting, hippotherapy and walking with horses.

The Hearts & Horses Scholarship is offered to participants with demonstrated financial need and circumstances that hinder their ability to participate in HorsePower programs.

HorsePower executive officer Kelly Mansfield said the therapeutic effects of equine therapy and programs could be life changing for participants.

“The benefits of spending time with a horse can not only impact a person’s physical health, but also provide benefits in the areas of education, learning, social inclusion, mental health and self-esteem,’’ she said.

“We are grateful for the ongoing support we receive from Community TAB, which enables us to establish this scholarship fund for participants who would otherwise not be able to participate in HorsePower programs due to their financial or personal situation.”

Racing and Wagering Western Australia’s (RWWA) Community TAB recently announced its recommitment to HorsePower by donating $80,000 to support its services, $15,000 of which will go towards the Hearts & Horses Scholarships.

There are 14 HorsePower centres in WA including, the Hills, Swan Valley and Brigadoon.

Participants may apply once a year for a scholarship to assist them to access HorsePower programs.
