High-risk health alert removed from Moore River

THE Shire of Gingin says along with the Department of Health they can advise microbial testing at Moore River confirms a return to safe levels with the high-risk health alert now removed.

Swim warning for Moore River continues, February 28 reported WA Health had confirmed cases of norovirus in people who had swum in Moore River at Guilderton in earlier weeks.

The shire said, according to WA Health, norovirus was very contagious and was one of the most common causes of gastroenteritis (vomiting and/or diarrhoea) in WA.

On Thursday, March 13 the shire said while people could use the river as per normal, they still wished to remind everyone to be aware of the risks associated with swimming in recreational waters.

“And please do not swim in the river if you’ve been unwell, as viruses can spread in the water,’’ the shire said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health on March 14 has issued a health warning following a rise in cryptosporidiosis notifications

According to the Department of Health cryptosporidiosis is easily spread from person-to-person in households, childcare facilities, and via swimming pools, waterparks, interactive fountains and spas.
