THE Lancelin bushfire has been downgraded as the fire is contained and controlled.

A bushfire advice is in place for people for the Lancelin townsite and surrounding areas, including north of Kingfisher Dr and south of Hawcroft Pl.

Yesterday Lancelin Police tweeted an emergency alert on X (formerly Twitter) asking a person who was flying a drone in the airspace over Lancelin and towards Indian Ocean Dr to cease flying.

“This is preventing water from being dropped by the planes overhead,’’ they said.

According to the latest alert issued at 5.50am by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Lancelin Road is still closed.

Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

One hundred firefighters have been attending the bushfire.

The bushfire was reported at 3.59pm on December 20.
