SEVERE weather is no longer occurring north of Mandurah so the weather warning for the Perth metropolitan area and the Midwest-Gascoyne has been cancelled.

At 10.42am the Bureau of Meteorology said the heaviest rainfall from 9am Saturday, February 6 to 8am Sunday, February 7 were Lancelin East 85mm, Hill River Springs 80mm, Moora 74mm, Jurien Bay 61mm, Warradarge East 61mm and Dardanup 59mm.

The highest wind gusts recorded since 11pm Saturday were Gooseberry Hill 100 km/h at 12.09am on Sunday, Bickley 94 km/h at 11.27pm on Saturday and Pearce RAAF Base 87 km/h at 11.43pm on Saturday.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services alert at 11.22am said BoM had advised the low pressure system was moving southwards off the west coast and was bringing heavy rainfall and abnormally high tides with damaging winds possible.

At 8am the low pressure system was located 200km northwest of Perth and moving southwards.

It is expected to pass along the Perth coast Sunday evening before crossing the southwest overnight Sunday and then continuing south of the state during Monday morning.

Heavy rainfall is currently occurring over the South West district and the adjacent Lower West.

Daily totals of 30 to 60mm are forecast for the South West district with isolated falls up to 100mm possible.

Once the low has moved south of an area rainfall will ease.

Tides could be higher than predicted along the west coast between Jurien Bay and Cape Naturaliste.

In these areas tides may rise above the normal high tide mark with rough seas.

Fresh and gusty easterly winds will continue south of the low and may produce damaging winds with peak gusts to 100km/h on and to the west of the Darling Scarp during Sunday morning.

As the low moves past, winds will shift north then northwesterly.

Once the low passes to the south of an area winds will ease.

Flood watches and warnings are current for river catchments across the Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Central West Districts.

Locations which may be affected include Bunbury, Busselton, Collie, Manjimup, Margaret River, Augusta, Dunsborough, Harvey and Walpole.
