LINDA Aitken has been returned as the mayor of the City of Wanneroo following a turnout of 25.6 per cent of the 141,426 electors eligible to vote.

Mrs Aitken won 28.75 per cent of the first preference votes followed by former councillor Hugh Nguyen with 17.95 per cent.

Yanchep resident Alex Figg will represent the North ward for the first time with 55.3 per cent of first preference votes after being unsuccessful in the previous local government election.

Mr Figg told Yanchep News Online it was a real privilege to have the trust of so many of his neighbours and fellow residents.

“I will do everything I can to bring to our northern suburbs the facilities and services we need,’’ he said.

“Well done to everyone who put their hand up, including Andre (Shannon), Elizabeth (Kamara) and Melissa (Ahlquist) in our North ward, who all ran positive campaigns focused on our community.’’

In other results Glynis Parker has been returned in the North East ward.

The Western Australian Electoral Commission said one ward was undergoing a recount – Central ward results are unavailable at this stage.

Marizane Moore has won the Central East ward and Phil Bedworth will be sworn in for the Central West ward.

Eman Seif has won the South ward vacancy and Vinh Nguyen has been returned in the South West ward.
