CRYSTAL Cave in the Yanchep National Park has a new boardwalk and is open for daily tours.

During a guided walk of the cave visitors get to hear about the cave’s history, geology and its ecosystem.

The 250m boardwalk provides a path through the cave, which has natural decorations such as stalagmites, helictites, columns and shawls.

Yesterday Environment Minister Stephen Dawson and Butler MLA John Quigley were given a tour of the cave by Yanchep National Park’s senior ranger Mark Varley and tour guide Chanelle Morey.

Mr Dawson said Yanchep National Park had recorded more than 310,000 visits during the past 12 months so the refurbishment of the boardwalk and the Henry White campground were sure to keep bringing people to the area.

“It’s great to see this new boardwalk ready to use in time for the school holidays,’’ he said.

Mr Quigley said Yanchep National Park was deserving of world-class facilities.

The new boardwalk took seven weeks to build and cost about $150,000.
