THE new career fire station for Yanchep, which WA Labor promised in the run up to last year’s state election is not expected to open until early 2029.
When he made the announcement back in January 2025 then Emergency Services minister Stephen Dawson said there was already a block of land on Yanchep Beach Rd.
Mr Dawson said if Labor was returned, planning for the new career fire station in Yanchep would take place after the election with it to be built in about the following 18 months.
He and Butler MLA Lorna Clarke pledged $22.7 million to build the new career fire station.
During state Budget week Yanchep News Online asked Emergency Services Minister Paul Papalia for an update on the proposed career fire station.
Mr Papalia said the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) was buying property expected to settle in mid-2026 at 128 Yanchep Beach Rd.
“Funding for the build of the new Yanchep Career Fire and Rescue Service station starts in the 2027-28 financial year,’’ he said.
“The facility is expected to be operational in 2029.’’
DFES said it was buying land costing $2.6m between the existing Yanchep Police station and the Y.hub.
“Construction is expected to start in December 2027, ahead of the anticipated opening in February 2029.
“Thirty-six career firefighters will be based at the new station.’’
