AT this stage lightning is believed to have caused the three bushfires in the Shire of Gingin today.
This afternoon the Department of Fire and Emergency Services DFES said the Nilgen bushfire was their primary concern with the Mogumber bushfire controlled and contained and the Regans Ford bushfire 80 per cent contained.
An emergency warning still remains in place for the Nilgen bushfire, which is moving in a westerly direction.
Due to the risk of unexploded ordnance (UXO) firefighters are confined to existing tracks in their firefighting efforts.
The evacuation centre at Lancelin Community Sports Centre (129 Lancelin Rd) is still open.
The bushfire, which is being fanned by 50km/h to 60km/h winds is still not contained or controlled.
Firefighters are backburning the northern flank of the bushfire to stop it spreading northwards.
One hundred and fifty firefighters and support services have been tackling the blaze, which to date has not resulted in any injuries or property losses.
Aerial support has been involved including the large air tanker, which had dropped fire retardant north of Lancelin.
But DFES said they still had a lot of work to do to contain the bushfire.
Some positives include that the Shire of Gingin has been working with DFES on bushfire mitigation in the area.
The current wind forecast – an easterly pushing towards the coast – looks promising for firefighting efforts with DFES keeping an eye on any potential north or south outbreaks.
At 4.31pm a bushfire emergency warning – leave now – was in place for people between Nilgen nature reserve and the Lancelin sand dunes, as well as for people in the area between Nilgen Rd and Indian Ocean Dr, bound by Ocean Farm Dr to the north and south in parts of Nilgen and Lancelin in the Shire of Gingin.
A bushfire watch and act – monitor conditions – was in place for people in an area west of Indian Ocean Dr, bounded by Sappers Road to the north and Lancelin Rd to the south, including Lancelin Golf Club.
A number of roads were still closed: Indian Ocean Dr, between Meadows Rd and Ocean Pl, Brand Hwy, between Mimegarra Rd and Dewar Rd, Dingo Rd, Ocean Farm Dr and Bottlebrush Rd.
