THE Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association has cancelled its Carols in the Park event due to Covid-19 creating many issues including around planning, volunteer availability and health and safety.

In a statement the Yanchep Two Rocks Community Recreation Association (YTRCRA) committee said it started planning for its annual Carols in the Park event in February and March with this year’s event having an additional meaning.

“Choosing to coincide the event with the one year anniversary of the Yanchep bushfire and to further celebrate our wonderful volunteers with a chosen date of December 12, 2020 the planning kicked off with a City of Wanneroo event application and community funding grant being applied for, quotes being received and the event format organised,’’ the statement said.

“Unfortunately, as we are all aware, in March 2020 the Covid-19 situation in Australia and around the world intensified with restrictions coming in place and many things put on hold.

“As such, the association was subjected to many delays on the planning of this event;

– community funding grant decision-making was delayed until August

– committee meetings were unable to be held;

And the event was in limbo.

“Coming into our July meeting, we had the tough decision of whether or not we continue planning for the event – an event that has been held by the association for over 30 years, this was not going to be an easy decision.

“There were many factors to be considered; funding, planning time, volunteer availability, restrictions, liability, health and safety and the unpredictability of Covid-19 etc.

“Taking all this into consideration, the association, by a unanimous vote, have decided to cancel the planned Carols in the Park event for 2020.

“It is with a heavy heart that we make this announcement, with the Carols event being an integral part of our community and the association itself.

“We have made this decision in the best interests of the community and being unable to develop the type of event our community deserve for such a purpose.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support of our association and look forward to hosting future events for our community.’’
