Dear Yanchep News Online,
Regarding the letter about Yanchep Beach Rd and Wanneroo Rd-Indian Ocean Dr intersection published on January 22.
So a set of traffic lights to go in eventually to help alleviate the number of near misses, actual accidents and now the latest fatality.
I am not sure this would help the road congestion in this intersection.
Surely a large roundabout would be the answer that incorporates the Yanchep Beach Rd, the Yanchep National Park entry on Wanneroo Rd, Indian Ocean Dr heading south, Old Yanchep Rd intersection and Wanneroo Rd heading north would be a safer option as it would slow traffic down from all directions and the traffic flow would not come to a grinding halt at any time.
Drivers will still take risks of dashing through an amber light or even a red light as we all know happens at times at a traffic light intersection whereas every driver can just mingle into the traffic flow of a roundabout.
I have mentioned this so many times to community members over the past 20 years or so while working in the Yanchep National Park, I have also commented last week to an RAC membership survey that I was sent for someone to discuss this further with Main Roads and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to see if a large roundabout would be considered.
Hopefully someone will see the sense in a roundabout being situated there.
Something needs to be done urgently.
S Dash
