THE Albanese Government says it is contributing funding towards a design and upgrade of a section of Neaves Rd in Mariginiup.
In a statement on Friday, February 6 the federal government said the investment would cater for heavy vehicles and aimed to improve the safety and access of the road by providing a wider audible centre median and wider sealed shoulders.
The statement said the project would widen 5.2km of Neaves Rd from Old Yanchep Rd to Meadowlands Dr from a 9m to 12.5m typical cross section to provide a 1m wide audible centre line (median) treatment, 1.5m sealed shoulders and 3.75m trafficable lanes.
The Albanese Government said it was committing $3.75 million, to the project under the safer local roads and infrastructure program (SLRIP), with the City of Wanneroo also contributing $3.75m.
Pearce MHR Tracey Roberts said in partnership with the city, the federal government was making a significant investment in improving road safety and productivity.
“It is great to see Neaves Rd from Old Yanchep Rd to Meadowlands Dr in Mariginiup receive the funding it needs to ensure a safer, smoother journey for the many residents who use the road,’’ she said.
“The Albanese Labor Government will continue to work with state, territory and local governments to deliver even more critical road upgrades in the future.”
Regional Development and Local Government Minister Kristy McBain said the federal government understood regional councils often needed extra financial support to help with meeting increasing costs and the continuing pressure on transport infrastructure.
“That’s why the Albanese Labor Government is delivering the funding local governments need to ensure our roads are safer,’’ she said.
“We’re tipping increased funding into safer local roads and infrastructure program, as well as the roads to recovery program and the black spot program, as part of our commitment to supporting safer and more productive local roads.”
