VEHICLE control points used to monitor travel into regional areas last year will be back in place during the five-day lockdown, which started at 6pm this evening.
WA Police have confirmed the vehicle control point on Indian Ocean Dr in Wilbinga is one of them.
Last year when regional travel bans were introduced they restricted movement between metropolitan suburbs such as Wanneroo with Wheatbelt towns such as Gingin except for essential purposes.
Restrictions for designated regions are enforceable through emergency determination powers under the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Cth).
A jail term of up to five years could apply to those who breach the determination.
Section 477 of the Biosecurity Act 2015 says the Health Minister may determine emergency requirements during a human biosecurity emergency period including requirements that apply to persons, goods or conveyances when entering or leaving specified places, requirements that restrict or prevent the movement of persons, goods or conveyances in or between specified places and requirements for specified places to be evacuated.
