WA Police say they will be out in force across the state during New Year’s festivities, ensuring everyone in the community can enjoy safe and happy celebrations.
Police are asking people to keep in mind their own safety, stay aware of their surroundings and be considerate of others so everyone has a great start to 2026.

Also keep in mind the Christmas and New Year double demerits operation, which started at
12.01am on Friday, December 19 stays in place until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 4.
During this period, police officers are targeting unsafe driving behaviours with zero tolerance, focusing on the fatal five – speeding, impaired driving, non-use of restraints or helmets, distracted driving and fatigue – which are the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes.
