A NEW high-tech performing arts centre has officially opened at Wanneroo Secondary College.

The $6.4 million centre includes a dance studio, green room, dedicated audio-video control section, collegiate room to accommodate staff and guests, classroom, restroom facilities and kitchen.

The college offers a specialist performing arts program for students to develop their skills and creativity in dance, drama and music.

With these new facilities, students will have exciting opportunities to develop the necessary expertise to move into employment in the performing arts industry.

The new centre will provide students with opportunities to learn a range of skills related to all aspects of performance, including those required front-of-house and backstage, in an industry-standard environment.

It is also a space where students and staff can gather for school events, year group presentations and staff training.

Premier Roger Cook said the new performing arts centre would provide students in the northern suburbs with a modern facility where they could learn their craft and follow their passion.

“I have no doubt performing arts students will excel in this new facility, which will also benefit other students and staff and serve as a venue where they can gather for school events,’’ he said.

Education Minister Dr Tony Buti said he looked forward to seeing the creativity of Wanneroo students continue to thrive in this state-of-the-art facility which he was sure would play host to some spectacular performances for many years to come.

Wanneroo MLA Sabine Winton said as a former student of the college, she was proud of the work done to ensure the Wanneroo community had access to high quality learning environments and enhancements like the new performing arts facility.

“There are more than 1100 students enrolled at Wanneroo Secondary College who will benefit from these new facilities,’’ she said.
