GINGIN trainer Ashley Maley expects Mervyn to lead and Indian Pacific to be trying to hit the lead on the corner in today’s Miss Andretti Stakes (1100m) at Ascot despite Mervyn’s wide barrier and Indian Pacific carrying 58.5kg.
This morning Maley told Yanchep News Online with plenty of speed likely in today’s race his runner Why Choose Her won’t be able to keep up with the pacesetters but he would like her in behind them.
Maley said if Why Choose Her, who has drawn barrier one, was in behind them once she balanced up she should be able to hit the line strongly.
In her last start on January 2 Why Choose Her was second to Indian Pacific in the Summer Scorcher (1000m) and before that back in November she ran second in the Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) behind Miss Frost.
Yesterday Maley told TAB Radio’s the Hour of Power that Why Choose Her had been super consistent.
“Her final sectionals have been outstanding and she’s had to go around every horse in the field at her past few runs,’’ he said.
“She’s drawn well and she quite likes the rail.
“There’s plenty of speed in there but, the way she’s been finishing off, if she can produce those sectionals against those horses I think she’ll be right in the finish.
“Especially if she gets some sort of run up that fence, I think she’ll be pretty hard to beat.”
